Well it was bound to happen, again. One of the local high schools here is under a federal mandate for improvement based on required test scores of 11th graders. This all falls under the "no moron left behind" bullshit. Don't tell but I think there are more punks left behind now than four years ago. Most probably deserve a job at McDonalds or a jail cell. Big deal, but the only fault lies within the kids, parents and schools. They get enough f*ucking money already.
This particular high school is in downtown. There is a five-star rated (#1) school about four miles to the west and another four or five star rated high school about 4 or five miles to the east. Hmmm, this should be easy to figure out the differences. Let's see. Demographics! That's it. Go figgah will you? The principal of the retard school claims that the reason for the poor score was not the kids' fault (that's what their parents say to), but rather the district was supposed to have tested 95% instead of the 91% they actually tested. Huh? You f*ucking morons!
So these buffoons that can't read or write on a fourth grade level yet are in the eleventh grade get a bye on the next test because they probably will have graduated. That's a goddamn joke! Maybe the teachers will brush up on their spelling and elementary math skills over the upcoming holidays, and the principal just may try to learn the difference between 91% and 95% is 4%! That's four percent that was supposed to be tested was not. Dumb asses one and all, and to think that I thought a military draft was once a bad idea.-Don.

I hear ya. My daughter's teacher was doing this strange teaching concept and I tried to find other information about it because I couldn't figure out what applicable use it had in anything and I couldn't find anything online at all with what she was doing. I'll be dealing with that at parent/teacher conference. They're out so many days over the year now and yet I just read a study that said teachers are sleep deprived. Oh brother...
D....
I still say you would make a wonderful teacher.
xo,
Ginger
Uhh, Im not sure what you are complaining about, haha. Really, Im not sure if you think the no child left behind is a joke, which it is, or that you are mad that 4% of these kids will get a pass for the test.
If its the latter, you still dont make sense because the 95% percent that was supposed to be tested leaves out 5% and with the draw back, thats 9% that wasnt tested.
So, are you mad that these 9% of kids werent tested? I would be more angry with the fact that there is a mandate for these tests to take place because these tests are truly a joke and not at all a gauge for education or graduation caliber.
These tests are a fluke and shouldnt be mandated with this faulty no child left behind nonsense.
Just some thoughts, ;-)

Public schools suck, and private schools are too expensive. The teachers are all tired and just teaching for a pay check not because it's their passion. I feel sorry for these kids because they are being raised in a selfish society, where everyone is just concerned about themselves(parents and faculty alike.) These kids will be our future one day,and I don't know about you,but I don't want someone who has a 4th grade reading level giving me my meds in the nursing home.
Best teacher I ever had was the one that gave me the most grief. But I learned. I think, like Thinkinfyou says, that kind of teacher is a rarity now.
Don, a military draft is still a bad idea because you end up with an army of the poor and the uneducated. Because the rich and well-educated are given enough loopholes to avoid the draft. IMHP
VE: Sleep deprived? Hell I guess we could all make that case. Tough shit--just do your fucking job...(not you :))
Ginger: Thanks, but I don't have the patience to babysit 15-18 year olds. Not without the power of punishment backing me up.
FLy: Relax and take a deep breath. The percentages that I cited were federally mandated. You want to know why then contact the Dept. of Education. I'm pissed at federal authorities fucking up the kids in school and kids in school taking advantage of it...better now?
Thinkinfyou: I agree 100%. That's 100 FLy! Government needs to say out and parents/teachers get in...ha! That'll never happen now though.
Bill: The only reason that I've never supported another draft is that those I know, as you say, were poor AND uneducated. They were not soldiers that could be relied on to perform. They whined and bitched and moaned constantly...just like now. They're the ones that still wear their bdu's from Nam and hair down to their asses. I've got no respect!!!
Don, I totally agree with you on this "no kid left behind" bullshit. Do you realize that now most schools are teaching to that test and not necessarily to what is important to learn. They are teaching just enough for kids to pass these damn tests so they can get their funding. I'm am just sick of our education system. You have teachers that aren't dedicated (not all of course), parents that don't think they need to participate in their children's education, kids that have a ridiculous sense of entitlement, and school curriculums that are designed to pass mandated tests -- it sucks --go figure!
*steps off soapbox
Here in progressive Georgia we have a bill to be debated in the legislature that would allow each parent to a voucher for the full amount that the state would pay for their education and spend it at any school they wished, public, private or religious.
I like the concept of putting the consumer in total charge of where they place their child for education. Georgia's 10k a year per child is actually more than our private academies.
I expect the largest scream will come from the High School football fans. I mean, who could stand it if a private school sprung up catering to the educational needs of athletes and proceeded to whip the hell out of everyone else?
AngieSS: Parents use the school systems as babysitters. Female students here even have a daycare inside of the main school building they dump their little illegitimate kids in...Some lady on the school board even cited that kids that some kids weren't at their proper grade levels and should have been sent to "remedial" classes instead and not have been tested at all.
Marvel Goose: That's about the size of it. In fact the school here that I'm talking about is in the top 6 in football statewide. They're playing one of their cross town rivals this weekend (the 5 star school)that is ranked 4th statewide in football. Gee, what's the difference? You'd have to see it!
