I think that one of my favorite breakfast cereals was and still is Raisin Bran. There's something about the raisins and the bran covered with two pounds of sugar that has always been a treat to me. I can almost eat it as candy. Cheerios was another of my favorites although I'm not sure why.
Then one day when in my late teens something happened that changed my view of Rice Krispies forever. I still laugh when I think how notoriously stupid this ad was. I can't look at a box of the tasty Styrofoam rat turds without laughing now. Here's what I saw:
God, ya gotta love it. I still won't eat that crap unless a bag of sugar is close at hand though.

That is marvelous! They assumed a certain level of, how should I say, culture? on the part of the audience...Not too many ad agencies using classic Italian opera in their campaigns these days
Grace: Especially since Rice Krispies was marketed toward a kid's audience.
Aren't Rice Crispies only made into Rice Crispie Treats???? I didn't know anybody actually ate them for breakfast... damn! I'm with you on Raisin Bran, Don... love it!! But I recently found Quaker Oatmeal Squares "with a hint of brown sugar"... oh! Am I ever addicted to these things!!! They stay crunchy in milk for quite a while and damn if you can't still drop a spoon or two of sugar on them!!! Maybe it's all the meds..... hmmmmmmmmmm.... they just don't have them at the local peoples-store....
I remember that ad. I used to sing it all the time as a kid. Love it. Raisin Bran? You're a real regular guy, Don!
I think this commercial is the reason they made characters out of Snap,Crackle and Pop...thankfully!
Tattoo Jim: I'll have to look for the Oatmeal Squares w/cinnamon. I eat the instant oatmeal with cinnamon and it's actually very good I think.
nonamedufus: I do love Raisin Bran. Kellogg's or Post variety. Probably prefer Post though. At any rate, it is good fo' sho'!
thinkinfyou: It's easy to see why I can't help but remember that ad. It's stupid but I guess it did it's job of getting folks like me to remember their brand.
God that was awful Don. Really awful. Bwahahahahahaha.
Have a terrific evening. :)
Sandee: Thank you! It's praise such as this that truly motivates me.
