I just learned that Captain Phil Harris has died of a stroke at the age of 53. For those of you who are not a fan of Discovery Channel's highest rated program "The Deadliest Catch", Phil captained F/V Cornelia Marie. His two sons, Josh and Jake, made up part of the crew. I am a big fan so...Reminds me of the time when I was eleven and my dad's favorite hunting dog died of heart worms. That was sad. Every time I see a crab I'll think of Captain Phil. Every time I eat a plate of red king crab claws I will think of Captain Phil. He would have wanted it that way.
South Mississippi has been placed under a winter storm advisory with as much as a foot of snow possible – in south Mississippi mind you! As many can attest, such a warning in south Ms. doesn't carry much weight except with the school districts. Schools will close Friday...bet your ass.
This past December we had two such "watches" in place. The first one closed schools in the area. The following day was cloudy with light rain. The second "winter storm" buried our area in a quarter inch of snow overnight, and the sun shone brightly the next day. Schools were shut down then too.
I think schools in south Mississippi should have three mandatory snow days a year. Even if it doesn't snow schools should close for that day. If your snow day occurs on a Friday, but it snows the following day (Saturday) then that snow day will be extended to Monday as well. Like federal holidays.
That's the way I see it anyway. If it's good enough for Uncle Sam... Oh, did I mention Captain Phil Harris died?

Raise your glasses....
Here's to you Captain Phil, may your inner compass take you to that plentiful crab bed in the sky.
Salute!
Truly sad about the Deadliest Catch star. A quarter-inch of snow shuts down the schools? Boy, that weather can reel you guys in...hook, line and sinker!
Yes you mention that Phil died. Several times. Now go eat some crabs.
A quarter inch of snow shut down the entire area. You guys are a bunch of...well you know.
I like the schools shutting down though. Keeps them little devils at home and off the streets.
Have a terrific day. :)
Me-Me King: Saaalute!
nonamedufus: Our school district seems to use any excuse to close schools just to get rid of the damn kids.
Sandee: I like a little snow for a change, but I don't know anyone down here liking it to the point you have to shovel it.
I remember the time I accidentally ate crabs after getting wasted with Phyllis the Hummer in 69. Could of used some butter.
Oh, did I forget to mention the kid on that show that got picked up robbing banks in Oregasm? Laughed my ass off. Dangerous catch! My buppkis.
Doctor Faustroll: There ya go. Where's the damned butter when you need it?! Huh?!
Doctor Faustroll: Hey which kid? I know one has been in and out of trouble but he's like thirtyish. Who do you mean?
RIP crabby Capt. Phil with the cigarette laugh.
Deb: Ahh, I see you're familiar with the old gruff bastard. Kind of sad. I've been hooked on that show since about '05. Oh well, who's next to go? Any bets? I say Sig.
Maybe we ought to have a snow day in honor of Captain Phil. We could all stay home and eat crab legs in his honor.
Captain Phil died too young. Sheesh.
Lin: A snow day in the captain's honor? Hmm, something mighty Gary Cooperish about that little lady. Yup...mighty Gary Cooperish.
What a shame he was one of the reasons I watched it. Im sure his legacy will live on
Sad. I loved Captain Phil.
You'd figure that cutting down to 40 packs a day would have been enough to save him.
Life,Marriage And Kids: Me too.
Mooooo35: I know. He'd only been smoking twenty or so packs a days when he died. I could hear a difference in his cough. He sounded so much better.
Don: Guy's name is Joshua Tel Warner and they undeadfully caught him around New Year's in Peoria, Illinois, because what happens in Peoria could happen anywhere.
Twenty-three-year-old Josh was wanted for bank heists both before and after working on the Wizard (don't that sound dirty? The wife calls up the stairs asking: What's you doing up there, Doctor? and I calls back: Just working on the Wizard, hon) that occurred in and around CarefulWithThatAxEugene.
That's the kind of NOMF™ inanity you just can't make up. There's a story from the Oregonadian about the whole silly episode posted here: http://www.oregonlive.com/news/index.ssf/2009/12/eugene_police_seek_deadliest_c.html.
My own experience is that catching crabs ain't near as dangerous as catching the clap. Take it from Captain Faust.
God Bless, Captain Phil.
You, just know he's wagin, his own "perfect storm", right now.
I wonder what, Captain Phil, would think about snow days? Especially in the deep-south?
F*&^in Pussies, is my guess.
Peace.
